Megan Thee Stallion leaves Broadway after Klay Thompson split

Megan Thee Stallion will leave Broadway’s “Moulin Rouge! The Musical” two weeks earlier than planned, the rapper said days after announcing her breakup with former Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson.

The Grammy-winning artist said in a statement that her final performance as Harold Zidler at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre will be Friday, May 1. Her limited engagement had been scheduled to run through May 17.

“Unfortunately, my last performance on Moulin Rouge! The Musical will be May 1,” Megan Thee Stallion said Monday, April 27. “It’s been such an honor to be part of Moulin Rouge … I’m so grateful for the cast and crew that made this experience so meaningful.”

She did not give a reason for her early departure.

The announcement came two days after Megan Thee Stallion revealed that she had ended her relationship with Thompson, now with the Dallas Mavericks.

“Trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there’s no real path forward,” she said in a statement to People.

Before that, she posted a message on Instagram Stories that appeared to accuse Thompson of infidelity.

“Cheating, had me around your whole family playing house… got ‘cold feet,’” she wrote. “Holding you down through all your HORRIBLE mood swings and treatment towards me during your basketball season, now you don’t know if you can be ‘monogamous????’”

Thompson did not immediately respond publicly to the allegations.

Megan Thee Stallion made her Broadway debut in “Moulin Rouge!” on March 24. Her run was briefly interrupted after she became ill during the March 31 performance and was taken to a local hospital.

The next day, she said she had been diagnosed with extreme exhaustion, dehydration, vasoconstriction and low metabolic levels. She returned to the show two nights later.

Her run appears to have boosted the musical’s box office.

Deadline reported that weekly grosses rose from $872,702 in the week ending March 1, before her arrival, to more than $1 million in each week after she joined the cast. The most recent weekly gross cited by the trade publication, for the week ending April 19, was $1,663,269.

Producers are expected to announce a replacement for the final two weeks of the role in the coming days.

The production also recently extended its Broadway run by five weeks and is now scheduled to close Aug. 30.

The early exit comes after a highly public chapter in Megan Thee Stallion’s relationship with Thompson, which became part of her public persona over the past year.

The couple made their red carpet debut at the Pete & Thomas Foundation Gala in July 2025. In November, the rapper cooked Thanksgiving dinner for Thompson’s family, and earlier that month, released a single, “Lover Girl,” inspired by the relationship.
