Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday came down heavily on Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi and his father former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, alleging that the former PM allowed save passage to Bhopal Gas tragedy villain Warren Anderson and Bofors deal middlemen Ottavio Quattrocchi. She was speaking in debate in Parliament on Lalitgate.
“Rajiv Gandhi allowed the killer of 15,000 people Warren Anderson and Ottavio Quattrocchi to slip out of the country,” she said in an animated speech in Lok Sabha.
She invoked the then Madhya Chief Minister Arjun Singh’s auto-biography to target the government. She alleged Rajiv Gandhi allowed save passage to Warren Anderson to secure release of his friend’s son Adil Shahryar who was serving 35 years in the United States. She quoted Arjun Singh’s book, saying Rajiv Gandhi had ordered him to make arrangements for Anderson’s safe passage to United States.
Making a sharp attack at Rahul Gandhi on his jibe she said Rahul Gandhi must ask “Mamma, how much money did daddy take from Quattrocchi. He must ask, why was Anderson, who killed 15,000 people, whisked away from the country overnight? Why was Adil Shahryar brought to India under quid pro quo?” she said amid loud cheers from BJP MPs.
Earlier, Congress moved an adjournment motion which the speaker accepted, allowing 2 and half hours for debating Lalitgate.
