On the occasion of India’s 67th Republic day, Bollywood’s fashion diva Sonam Kapoor attended the flag hoisting ceremony at flight attendant Neerja Bhanot’s school.

Sonam Kapoor’s film Neerja is an incredible story of a 23-year-old girl who gave up her own life trying to save the lives of hijacked passengers on a flight in Karachi in 1986. Earlier it was said that Sonam Kapoor will pay a tribute to Neerja, the youngest recipient of India’s highest civilian award for bravery, The Ashok Chakra, on Republic Day. In an interview, Sonam had said, “I am honoured that Bombay Scottish has invited me for the flag hoisting ceremony. The hijack happened 30 years ago, and I am glad that through the film her story has re-emerged.”

Sonam visited Neerja’s Bombay Scottish School in Mumbai for the Republic Day celebrations earlier in the day.
