After making her presence felt in Hollywood, leading Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra has now ventured into Bhojpuri cinema as a producer.
Her newly-floated production house, Purple Pebble Pictures, has set out to produce a Bhojpuri movie, Bam Bam Bol Raha Hai Kashi starring the popular pair of Dineshlal Nirahua and Amrapali Dubey in the lead roles.
The shooting for the film, being written and directed by Santosh Mishra, is slated to release later this year. Nirahua, the reigning superstar of the cow belt film industry, is excited to work in a movie produced by Priyanka, whose performance in an American television series Quantico not only earned her rave reviews but also won her the favorite actress award at the recent People’s Choice Awards.
But the former Miss World, who played an FBI agent Alex Parish in the series, has launched three regional films back home in Marathi, Punjabi and, above all, Bhojpuri, leaving the film stars in Bihar and UP thrilled.
Nirahua said it was a matter of pride that Priyanka had decided to make a Bhojpuri film. “Priyanka has earned a name for herself in Bollywood as well as Hollywood,” he said. “It is a pride of pride for the entire Bhojpuri film industry that she has entered into production with a Bhojpuri movie.”
Nirahua, who is cast opposite Bhojpuri cinema’s in demand actress Amrapali Dubey, said that it was a love story.
The entry of a big actress like Priyanka has caused jubilation in the Bhojpuri film industry. Leading publicist and distributor Prashant-Nishant said that her movie would be a big boost for the regional cinema. “Though she (Priyanka) has announced three regional movies, it is the Bhojpuri industry that will benefit the most,” he said.
