Narendra Modi arrogant, didn't consult Northeast CMs on Naga peace accord: Sonia Gandhi

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for showing ‘arrogance’ in the manner the historic Naga peace accord was reached.

The Union government on Monday signed the historic peace accord with Naga rebel outfit NSCN(IM) that brought to an end one of the country’s oldest insurgencies.

However, Sonia today lashed out at the PM for failing to consult chief ministers of northeastern states before finalising the peace accord.

The government has still not released the finer details of the peace agreement.

Expressing shock, Sonia said the Modi government failed to consult the CMs of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

“We’re actually shocked that the PM didn’t even think of taking into confidence our CMs,” the Congress president said.

“He (PM) did not even think of taking into confidence our Manipur CM, Assam CM and Arunachal Pradesh CM who are directly affected. Here’s is another show of arrogance of this government,” she added.

“It may be historic (Naga peace accord), but what about consulting the CMs of the states which are directly affected,” Sonia said further, and asked, “Isn’t that proof of arrogance of this government?”

“This government is arrogant; what happened to the government’s saying of ‘sabke saath chalna hai’?”
