In PM Narendra Modi 's 'village', BJP-backed candidate suffers embarrassing defeat

In what can be seen as a setback for the BJP, the results of the Uttar Pradesh Block and District Panchayat elections shaped up in an embarrassing manner for the party riding on the ‘Modi wave’.

Arun Singh Rinku, a BJP-backed candidate from Jayapur, a village adopted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, lost the Panchayat elections, sending alarm bells ringing among the party cadres.

The BJP put up an unimpressive show in the UP Panchayat Elections, managing to secure only 8 out of the 48 seats. The saffron party’s candidate Arun Singh rinku, failed to woo the voters.

It is worth mentioning that Prime Minister Narendra had adopted the village of Jayapur from his constituency Varanasi. This defeat comes a shocker for the BJP, at a time when the party is making efforts to strengthen its foothold across various states in India. The question really is, will the Panchayat Elections results have any impact on the politics of Uttar Pradesh?
