Union minister Giriraj Singh on Wednesday made an atrocious statement saying that Sonia Gandhi’s skin color made her become the Congress president.
“If Rajiv Gandhi had married a Nigerian and if she wasn’t white skin, would Congress accept her as a leader?” the BJP MP from Bihar said.
The Congress immediately condemned his controversial remarks. “I strongly condemn the derogatory remarks used by our union minister towards Sonia Gandhi. This is not a remark to Sonia Gandhi only but they remark towards all the women,” RPN Singh said.
He sought an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“It is not only him but many related to BJP keep using such statements. We seek apology from the PM. He is a minister in the government he must give a statement on this,” RPN added.
Senior CPI-M leader Brinda Karat said that leaders like Giriraj are being trained by Modi.
“This is racist and I strongly condemn it. How dare he is making racist statement. The entire statement shows the low level of public discourse. In our country, there is no stringent code of conduct which can control such remarks, it’s unfortunate. I think this is high time, both parliament and state assembly should consider it. Such kinds of leaders are trained by Modi. Let him answer, how his leaders are making such statements,” she said.
