Forgetfulness is one of the most common problems that many people face today.
It can be defined as a ‘memory loss’ or a ‘persistent failure’ to remember. Forgetfulness can be frustrating and can affect or even cost your job. It can also affect your home life.
Forgetfulness is linked to the executive functions in the brain – processes which help in managing, organising, and disseminating information.
While mild forgetfulness is considered as a normal part of aging, when it happens more than it should it can trigger fears of looming dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
Forgetfulness can also happen due to various health issues and as a result of medication side effects. However, emotional problems like stress, anxiety, or depression, can make a person more forgetful.
But, the good news is that anyone can improve their memory by trying out different actvities. Here are a few tips that can help sharpen your memory and reduce forgetfulness:
Take healthy diet: Eat a healthy diet which is not only good for your brain, but for your body to function it properly. Consume lots of vegetables, vegetables and whole grains. Choose low-fat protein sources, such as lean meat, skinless poultry and fish. Try to avoid junk food.
Get adequate sleep: Sleep plays an important role in memory. Try getting enough sleep of about 7-8 hours per day.
Exercise: Daily physical activity will help keep your memory sharp while giving immense benefits to your body such as helping you lose weight, reducing your risk of several chronic diseases – heart disease, diabetes, etc.
Write things down: Grab a pen and a paper and write down of the items that you plan to do. Put the note somewhere that you can easily see such as on your house’s door or on your refrigerator. You can remove the note once the task is done.
Stay mentally active: Just like your physical health, your mental health needs to remain active in order to help keep your brain in good shape. Play brain games such as crossword puzzles that will make you smarter as well as improve your memory.
