Cartoonist RK Laxman critical, in nursing home with multiple organ failure

Eminent cartoonist RK Laxman, who created “The Common Man”, has suffered multiple organ failure and his condition was “critical” late on Sunday, family sources said.

The 95-year-old Laxman, a current employee of The Times Of India, was admitted to a private nursing home here Friday due to some kidney and chest-related issues.

“Saturday, he was in ICU and this (Sunday) morning miraculously bounced back. Again his condition is a cause for concern,” a family member, who did not want to be identified.

A Magsaysay laureate, Laxman’s cartoons have regaled generations since 1950s till a few years ago when he stopped drawing due to ill health.
