In Jiah Khan murder case, Today, Bombay high court granted bail to actor Suraj Pancholi on a surety of Rs. 50000.
He was arrested on the basis of a letter, purportedly written by Jiah, which was found by her mother Rabiya Khan and her sister from Jiah’s bedroom a few days after she hung herself from the ceiling fan on June 3.
A suicide note found at the actress’s Mumbai apartment didn’t reference Pancholi by name, but it alleged that the person it was addressed to had raped and abused her. The letter also claim that Khan had received an abortion. Police recovered documents from a local hospital that proved Khan had indeed undergone the procedure. Furthermore, Khan’s mother Rabia claimed that she believed Pancholi had pushed the actress towards suicide and alleged that Khan had facial injuries around the time that the couple split.
In the letter, Jiah spoke how she was mentally harassed by Suraj and how she had undergone an abortion. Sooraj, lodged in Arthur Road prison in central Mumbai, says in his bail plea that he and Jiah were in a consensual relationship and the letter is being misused by Rabiya.
Police’s case is that letter was “incriminating” against Sooraj as Jiah blamed him for her downslide and said she was “heartbroken” in her relationship with him and was fed up with his “womanising”.
