Though they may have reason to be worried, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders have reacted with caution to BJP’s masterstroke of getting Kiran Bedi to take on Arvind Kejirwal in Delhi.
The AAP chief tweeted: “I have been fond of Kiran Bedi ji. I always tried to convince her that she shud (sic) join politics. I am happy she did it today.”
However, his party colleagues not as charitable as him on Kiran Bedi’s decision to join the BJP and contest Delhi assembly polls.
Senior party leader Sanjay Singh said, “Shocking news for us as she decided, she will raise voice of public through social movements non politically.”
“Yet to see if she would contest for the post of CM in Delhi,” he said, adding, “But she has her own ideology and freedom, we extend our wishes to her.”
AAP spokesperson Atishi Marlena said, “Kiran ji was against party politics during India against corruption movement, she seemed to hv changed her point of view…But she is welcome to join politics, she is welcome to join BJP.”
Kejriwal close aide and senior party leader Manish Sisodia said, “When it comes to credibility, there is no one as credible a contestant as Arvind Kejriwal. We congratulate Kiran ji and BJP on this new update.”
Clearly, the AAP will have to get back to the drawing board on its poll strategy to overcome the BJP’s growing strength in the high-stakes battle for Delhi.
