There have been loads of rumours and news surrounding the release and features of the next iPhone, the iPhone 5S. However, this news tops them all! According to reports by Tech site Stuff, the next iPhone will not be the iPhone 5S but the iPhone 6.
The site reportedly received a tip in the form of an image from Vodafone UK’s inventory listing stating the next iPhone will be the iPhone 6. While there have been no rumours surrounding the name, that Apple will release the next iPhone with the 5S moniker was understood looking at their history.
However, all things change and looks like Apple is willing to change tradition this once with the next iPhone. The naming, ‘iPhone 6’, also refuels rumours of Apple coming up with a cheaper, smaller iPhone this year. The 6 name is perhaps suggestive of the same. Will Apple stick to iPhone 5S for the smaller phone and name the next big Apple phone the iPhone 6?
According to Stuff: Sir Jony Ive has been heading an iOS 7 re-design, sprucing it up to give the iPhone a much-needed software facelift, and we could see a totally revamped body which strays away from the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5’s well-established shape.
There have been rumours of the next iPhone coming with a ‘no frills’ design. A couple of weeks ago, news leaked that the next version of iOS will come with a “very, very flat look”. There have been recent reports of iOS devices losing their charm with the younger generation as youth prefer variety and iOS is pretty much standard when it comes to looks. So the new design and layout might be a much needed move for Apple to capture flagging interest and dropping shares.
However, we wonder if Apple is taking the change too far. Apart from the next phone being called iPhone 6, instead of iPhone 5S and getting a complete software revamp, there have also been rumors of colourful iPhone, iPhone with stylus, iPhone with wrap-around display and iPhone with finger-print unlocking. The latest to join the iPhone rumour bandwagon was the rumour of a camera update. iPhone 5S (or now the iPhone 6) will reportedly come with a 13 MP snapper and Samsung Galaxy S4’s dual-shot feature.
That’s one lot of rumours and we wonder how many of them are. However, though all sound brilliant, we’re not sure if it would be wise for Apple to incorporate all of them in the next iPhone. The iPhone could sure use with a jolt to revive flagging interest but too many jolt might prove detrimental. Also, Apple could perhaps retain some features for the smaller iPhone or the ‘iPhone 5S’ – if iPhone 6 is the next big Apple phone.
Whatever be the name, the iPhone 6 or iPhone 5S we just hope Apple sweeps everyone off their feet this time round!
