Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on Ajith’s stardom: He deserves it

2 min read

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan started off her acting career in Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar, which released in 1997. Following Iruvar, she starred in a handful of Tamil films including Jeans, Kandukondein Kandukondein, Endhiran, Guru and Raavanan. In her recent visit to Chennai, she revealed that she remembers Ajith from Kandukondein days.

In Rajiv Menon’s Kandukondein Kandukondein, she was paired opposite Abbas and Mammootty. The multi-starrer film also had Ajith and Tabu in the lead roles. The film remains one of the best Tamil movies and received critical acclaim as well.

She said that she remembers Ajith even though they didn’t have a lot of scenes together in the film. “He was so warm and an incredible professional. I’m so happy to see the kind of success and love he is enjoying from his audiences. He deserves it.

Though I didn’t have many scenes along with him, I met him on the sets. I also remember meeting his family during the making of Kandukondein Kandukondein. If we ever cross paths again, I’d love to congratulate him on his deserved success,” the Endhiran actress told.

The Bollywood actress is gearing up for her next Tamil film, Ponniyin Selvan, which is once again helmed by legendary director Mani Ratnam. She is said to be playing the role of an antagonist in the film, which will go on floors early next year.

In an interview, Aishwarya spoke very highly of her guru Mani Ratnam. She said, “What I will commit to is even though Mani hasn’t formally announced it himself, I’m working with him. The word is out so I’m committing to that fact. And I don’t have to agree. I’ll always be more than thrilled, excited, overwhelmed, humbled, and just happy to work with my guru. So, ya that’s happening. Back to school.”
