Bollywood actress Nafisa alias Jiah Khan, who was seen opposite Amitabh Bachchan in “Nishabd”, committed suicide at her residence in Mumbai’s Juhu area, police said Tuesday. She was 25.
The Britain-born actress was found hanging at her flat in Sagar Sangeet Building in the posh Juhu area of northwest Mumbai around midnight. The cause of the suicide is not yet clear, police said, adding that autopsy reports were awaited.
“She had been depressed for some time due to personal issues, but was keen on returning to acting soon. She was also meeting filmmakers regarding projects,” Times of India quoted sources close to the actress as saying.
According to reports the incident happened at about 11:00 pm and no suicide note was found.
Amitabh Bachchan, her first co-star in “Nishabd”, was shell-shocked with the news. “-WHAT …!!! Jiah Khan ??? what has happened ? is this correct ? unbelievable !!!” he tweeted.
Jiah had starred in Aamir Khan’s action blockbuster “Ghajni” (2008) and was seen alongside Akshay Kumar in “Housefull” (2010).
The actress even received a Filmfare Debut Nomination for her ‘confidence, attitude, and sex appeal’ in the controversial film “Nishabd”.
